The Black Key’s new single, Lonely Boy. Featuring a dancing man. Enjoy!
I guess it was a slow news day for paps (paparazzi for those of you who don’t read gossip blogs every day ahem) in L.A yesterday because the internet’s been buzzing about, gasp, Katherine Hegel’s coat:
Some love it, some hate it. Micheal K of Dlisted said, “One way to keep psychotic birds from pecking the blood out of your face is to do yourself up so you look like you’ve already felt the beak wrath of a flock of winged animals.” The Daily Mail online disagreed and had some kinder words, saying, “The 32-year-old actress looked glamorous in her oversize belted camel coat, black shorts and leopardskin print boots at a Hollywood gas station.“
My opinion? I love that she is wearing this freaking fabulous coat while pumping gas, especially since it’s like 30 degrees in L.A right now…
First off, I apologize for not updating recently, but hopefully they will be on their way shortly.
Even though this is a fashion blog, I just wanted to take a moment discuss something close to my heart. There have been a string of tragic deaths in Ottawa recently, including cyclist Danielle Nacu and elevator mechanic Ross Angus, and my condolences go out to their family and friends during this difficult period of time. However, today I read about a truly disturbing death, of grade 10 A.Y Jackson student Jamie Hubley.
According to reports, Hubley was struggling with being bullied for his sexuality. His death comes just days after the highly publicized death of American teen Jamey Rodemeyer, who committed suicide for the same reason. While Rodemeyer’s death was covered on many news outlets and media sites due to his connections with Lady Gaga, and Lady Gaga herself speaking out about the event, Hubley’s death will most likely not be as publicized, which is why I’m taking a moment to discuss it.
I am absolutely heart broken and disgusted that teen bullying over sexuality has repeatedly lead to suicides, not just in North America but globally. This is a large issue which MUST be addressed and discussed in high schools. So please, if you are reading this, take a moment on whatever media outlet you have, and follow the It Gets Better moment by saying just that. Bullies exist; unfortunately they always will. But life gets better, there are always people who will always love you for who you are and who will support you through troubled times.
My condolences go out to Hubley’s family, and I hope Jamie has found some form of peace.
Update: Take a chance to check out David Robert’s (From Much Music’s 5 Gays 1 Girl) video for Jamie Hubley.
Also, media gossip Preze Hilton has written about Jamie’s death, read the article here.
Also there will be a bracelet campaign starting to raise awareness about Jamie Hubley. This Facebook group will have details as they emerge.
I’m finally launching today, after two months of thinking about starting this site, and then actually doing it. I want to thank Jaclyn Martino (featured below) again for helping me with the layout and making the beautiful header for the home page, Erika White for making our lovely logo, and all the people who have been so kind when I’ve randomly stopped them on the street to take their picture. So please, take a look around, leave comments, suggestions, whatever! Just stay classy. I am currently at my cottage for Thanksgiving weekend but when I return I plan on hitting the streets and getting more content.
Have a good Thanksgiving everyone! And remember:
“Fashion can be bought, style one must posses”
Jaclyn made the lovely header for the home page, so I thought I would thank her by featuring her here:
I love fall the brown boots and belt which due to different textures don’t come across as matchy-matchy, and paired with a bright pop of pink makes the whole outfit fun and flirty.
We may or may not have had a little fashion show, fashion show, fashion show at lunch while at work (don’t tell our boss), so here is another look of hers:
I love green pants, and I would get some if I actually did wear pants. Either way, another lovely outfit. If you want to check out some of Jaclyn’s other graphic design skills, check out her website here! Thanks Jaclyn!
Sometimes it pays off to be at the right place at the right time. I randomly asked these two ladies, Malorie and Maureen to pose for the blog. Just so happens they are part of the Ottawa fashion community themselves! Although I’m not surprised with those cute outfits…
Malorie Bertrand (on the right) runs EF Magazine, a fashion magazine focusing on stylish sustainable Canadian fashion. Please check it out!
Together they are organizing an awesome event called Fashion on Display:
Thanks Malorie and Maureen, hope the event and your causes go well!
Until next time,
